Excellent ratings for ‘First on Everest’ ORF 2

Our Franco-German-Austrian coproduction “First on Everest” was broadcast on ORF 2 on 30.12.2010 and has achieved excellent ratings with a market share of 21%.

The exciting documentary tells the story of George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, who had already dared to mount Mount Everest in 1924, 30 years before Edmund Hillary. Since neither of them ever returned from the mountain, controversy is still being debated as to who really was the first on Everest.

The film accompanies the German explorer and geologist Jochen Hemmleb on his expedition to Mount Everest. Mallory’s corpse could be found in 1999. His partner Irvine is considered to be missing.

Hemmleb doubts the theory that Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first people on the highest mountain in the world. The film explores the mysterious journey of solving this puzzle with the help of modern science and high-quality re-enactments.
