Mystery in Yellowstone

Synopsis

The elks in Yellowstone National Park are disappearing – populations have plummeted over the last decade. This film follows three wildlife biologists in their endeavor to solve this mysterious population decline and piece together a more complete picture of a complex yet fascinating ecosystem.

With the help of groundbreaking methods they discover previously unknown connections between grizzly bears, lake trouts and elks and thus grow to appreciate the complexity – and beauty – of one of North America’s most famous National Parks.

The documentary leads along the river bends of the Yellowstone National Park to unravel the mysterious disappearance of the elk. Once, tens of thousands roamed the valleys, now fewer and fewer elk reach their winter grounds in the northern ranges.

The film is an investigative journey to solve the mystery in Yellowstone: An elk biologist, a grizzly bear expert, and a specialist on the infamous lake trout – an invasive species to the National Park.
