Synopsis
Love it or hate it, the European single currency is now used by 340 million people and has revolutionized our economy, profoundly transformed our society, shaken up countries, weakened governments, strengthened others and sparked raging debates that are unlikely to end anytime soon.
January 1, 2019 will mark the 20th anniversary of the adoption of a currency on which endless scorn has been poured and which has the generation that saw its adoption still on the fence whilst the one that grew up with it has little idea of the profound changes it effected or even how it came about. Blending archive footage with riveting interviews with those at the coalface, comedic segments and animation, this film will go into the corridors of powers up and down Europe and behind the scenes to bring back to life the milestone events, the secret meetings and negotiations that gave birth to the European currency.
