Pirates are the heroes of our youth: Buccaneers undaunted by death, braving furious seas and over-powering foes. But the role was and important one in the political and economic structures of their time.

The two-part documentary covers a broad range of time in order to understand the life and meaning of piracy. What were the real interests?

The first part tells the story of the famous outlaw Francis Drake, who at the same time was a liege to the Queen. Cui bono? The second part focuses on the northern African buccaneers that enslaved over one million Christians dn could only be stopped by the first American military intervention outside of the USA.
